FusePoint License Key Documentation

Type: web part

Overview

The FusePoint License Key web part is designed to help organizations validate and manage their license keys within SharePoint. This web part is required to activate FusePoint solutions and should be placed on a dedicated settings page. Once the license is validated, only users with Edit permissions on the FusePoint settings item in the App Catalog site will be able to manage the configuration.

How It Works

  1. Purchase & Receive License

    • After purchasing the package, users receive an email with the license key and installation package.
    • The license key is unique and generated by FusePoint.
  2. Installation & Activation

    • Upload the latest FusePoint package to the SharePoint App Catalog.
    • Create a new settings page and add the FusePoint Settings web part.
    • Go to the License key tab and enter your license key for validation.
  3. Updated Permission Handling

    • The FusePoint settings are stored in the App Catalog under the Tenant Wide Application List.

    • When users click Manage permissions for FusePoint settings, their permissions are evaluated.

      • If users in the selection don’t already have edit access on the App Catalog settings item, a message will appear:

“These users do not have sufficient permissions to update FusePoint settings stored in the App Catalog. Please ensure they have edit access.”

    • A description is now displayed on the page for context:

FusePoint settings are only shown to users with access to the SharePoint App Catalog.

Features

  • Centralized License Management – Input and validate the FusePoint license key within a secure interface.
  • Secure App Catalog Integration – Validates against App Catalog settings storage, not page-level permissions.
  • Updated UI Controls – Button label changed to “Manage permissions for FusePoint settings” to better reflect the actual action.
  • Contextual Messaging – Users without sufficient access are informed through in-webpart messaging.
  • Permission-Scoped Visibility – Web part only loads when users have access to modify the settings list item in the App Catalog.

Best Practices

  • Use the Manage permissions for FusePoint settings feature to control who can update the configuration.
  • Make sure users intended to manage settings have edit access on the App Catalog list item, not just the SharePoint page.

Conclusion

The FusePoint License Key web part is a secure and efficient solution for managing licensing across FusePoint solutions. With improved permission handling based on App Catalog access, admins can confidently delegate configuration tasks while preserving security and compliance.
